Regional Center for the Arts, Trumbull, Conn

Regional Center for the Arts is a performing arts magnet school serving 10 towns in and around the Trumbull area. RCA was developed and is supported by these school communities, but courses are also open to students from non-public, vocational-technical, and non-participating school districts.

JaffeHolden collaborated on the project with JCJ Architecture (Hartford, Ct office), Fisher Dachs Associates (New York City), and a comprehensive team of design consultants. JaffeHolden's Mark Turpin, Carlos Rivera, Larry King and Russell Cooper provided consulting services for architectural acoustics for the facility's varied instructional, production, and performance spaces, and for performance audio systems.

The 41,000 square foot facility includes a 250-seat proscenium theatre, a 120-seat flexible studio theater, six light-filled dance studios of varying size, four music studios, three drama studios, and various teaching and performance support spaces, all connected to a common lobby. According to the architect, "Each 'pod' dances along the ridge of the site as it supports the whimsical composition and represents each of the departments. The pods serve to further break the scale of the building as it addresses the residential fabric across the street."

Project design commenced in 2004 and construction was completed at the end of 2007 at a cost of $16 million.
