The resort opened in Sept. 2006, with construction on the second phase of the project already underway. The second phase includes approximately 123,000 square feet of additional gaming space, and a 600-seat theater showroom, designed by JaffeHolden, that opened in the 4th quarter of 2007.
JaffeHolden's scope of work on the proscenium-type theater included architectural acoustics, sound isolation, mechanical noise and vibration control, and sound system design (performance audio, technical video, and backstage/lobby support systems).
"The theater is adjacent to casinos and a mechanical room with multiple air handling units," says project manager, Mark Holden, "so our focus was on sound isolation. The theater could be used for rock concert type programming, where high levels of low frequency were of concern, so we incorporated four-inch thick absorption into the design. Distracting reflections back to the stage were a concern in the theater’s acoustics. We addressed this by locating absorption on the majority of the back and side wall surfaces."
The JaffeHolden team (Mark Holden; Mark Turpin, systems consultant; Brian Corry, acoustic design consultant) collaborated on the project with architects Wong & Ouyang (Hong Kong), and Theatre Projects Consultants of South Norwalk, CT (with offices in the United Kingdom and Singapore).
