JH’s Matt Nichols Attends Higher Education Conference

Matt Nichols, Associate Principal at Jaffe Holden, attended the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) conference in Seattle, Washington, to participate in sessions with a focus on improving building design to facilitate learning and improve the student experience. The conference was well-attended by college and university faculty, architects and consultants – a community coming together to unleash the potential of higher education.
A very interesting and popular session focused on the new trend of teaching in the round. This new classroom design concept is gaining traction in the higher education community. Jaffe Holden’s 21st Century Classroom project (currently under construction at Texas Tech University) was featured as a signature project. Here, several round lecture rooms were designed to promote maximum professor and student engagement and special acoustic considerations were made in support of teaching in the round.
While in Seattle, Matt visited Jaffe Holden’s legacy project Benaroya Hall and the recently debuted Octave 9 immersive AV and acoustical experience.
